And when it comes to food, nothing is more serious than the combos. From pounded yam and egusi soup to jollof rice and dodo (fried plantain), there’s a perfect combo for every occasion. Here are some of the best food combos in Nigeria:

Pounded yam and egusi soup: This is one of the classic food combos in Nigeria that is popular among the Igbo people of Nigeria. The combination of the smooth, creamy texture of the pounded yam with the rich, flavourful egusi soup is simply heavenly.

Jollof rice and dodo: This is another classic Nigerian combo that is loved by many. The combination of the fiery jollof rice with the crispy fried plantain is simply irresistible.

Beans and plantain: This is another classic combo in Nigeria. The combination of the rich, flavourful beans with the sweet, fried or boiled plantain is simply delicious.

Amala and ewedu: This is a popular combo among the Yoruba people of Nigeria. The combination of the sticky amala (yam flour) with the slimy ewedu (leafy vegetable) is simply divine.

Rice and stew: This is the king of them all because Sunday! “There’s rice at home”. You would barely see this lacking in any Nigerian restaurant because it is the easiest meal to make that would not take so much time. Also, it is one of the most common food combos in Nigeria.

Bread and Akara or Akara and Pap: This is a popular combo when it comes down to breakfast in Nigeria. It is either Bread and hot akara or Pap and akara. A staple meal in most homes on Saturday. The combination of soft, fluffy bread with the Akara (bean cake) or Pap is simply delicious and filling. You would definitely have a good nap once you are done.

Banga Soup and Starch: This is a popular food combo among the people of Delta state in Nigeria. The combination of the thick, creamy banga soup filled with varieties of meat and fish (or obstacles as it’s called by some Nigerians) with starch (made from cassava prepared with different methods) is just extraordinary.

Bread and Ewa Agoyin: Lagos is the place that houses this food combo. Ewa Agoyin is just beans and stew but a Yoruba person would tell you that it is a lot more. You would find it being hawked by food vendors or sold in roadside bukkas. Although it can be eaten with so many other delicacies, bread tops the list.

Garri and Groundnut: One would say this is a poor man’s meal. But is it really? Considering the cost of things in our economy today. The garri is soaked with either cold/room temperature water, sugar is added and some people also go the extra mile to add in milk and then the roasted groundnut follows suit. This combo is a meal on its own and it is very filling too, just close your eyes and enjoy the crunchiness.

Roasted/ Boiled corn with Pear or coconut: A roadside staple! Lots of Nigerians are always happy when it’s corn season because it is one of the best things you can ever purchase on your way home or around you. At the moment, it is what is in season and everyone is loving it.

These are some of the best food combos in Nigeria we know for now.. Some are even listed here. We also believe that there are more we did not mention and we would like to hear from you in the comments section.
