Just because you own a restaurant, doesn’t mean you’re an expert at table setting etiquettes. In fact, many restaurateurs make rookie mistakes when it comes to place settings.   • When setting a table, there are three basic utensils that you will need: a fork, a knife, and a spoon. These utensils can be placed in one of two ways. The first way is the American style, which is when the fork is placed on the left side of the plate, and the knife and spoon are placed on the right side of the plate. The second way is the European style, which is when the fork is placed on the right side of the plate, and the knife and spoon are placed on the left side of the plate. While there is no correct way to set a table, it is generally recommended that you use the American style when setting a formal table, and the European style when setting an informal table.

In addition to the three basic utensils, there are also several other utensils that you may need, depending on the type of meal that you are serving. For example, if you are serving a soup course, you will need a soup spoon. If you are serving a salad, you will need a salad fork. And if you are serving dessert, you will need a dessert fork and spoon.

The second way is the H-shape arrangement, which is when the water glass is placed on the far left side of the table, followed by the wine glass, champagne flute, and coffee cup. Again, there is no correct way to arrange your glassware, but it is generally recommended that you use the U-shape arrangement for a formal table setting, and the H-shape arrangement for an informal table setting.

  • Finally, there are several other items that you may need for your table setting, depending on the type of meal that you are serving. For example, if you are serving a bread course, you will need a bread plate and butter knife. If you are serving a fish course, you will need a fish fork and knife. And if you are serving a meat course, you will need a meat fork and knife.

Also, do not forget that your guests will need napkins! Napkins can be placed in one of two ways. The first way is the American style, which is when the napkin is folded in half and placed on the left side of the plate. The second way is the European style, which is when the napkin is folded in half and placed on the right side of the plate. Again, there is no correct way to arrange your napkins, but it is generally recommended that you use the American style for a formal table setting, and the European style for an informal table setting.
