The Meta Pixel Checklist

Set up your website so Meta learns who actually books, orders and pays, and your ads find more guests like them.

  • Restaurants, lounges and bars that run Instagram ads

Most restaurants running Instagram ads make one big mistake: they pay Meta for traffic without teaching Meta who their actual customers are. Someone clicks the ad and lands on your site. Whether they book, order or leave, the system spending your money never finds out.

This is the checklist I would use to make sure a restaurant website is set up properly for ads and conversion tracking: the Pixel on every page, the right events at the right moments, the checks that prove it works, and the campaign settings that put the data to work.

Stop paying for clicks Meta cannot learn from

When someone clicks your ad, visits your website, books a table, places an order or signs up for an event, the Meta Pixel can feed that back to your ad system. The more real customer behaviour Meta can see, the better your ads become.

Without it, all you can tell Meta is "find me people who like food" or "find me people who click this link". With it, you give much stronger signals: these people actually book, actually order, actually pay, and in many cases exactly how much they spend. Meta then looks for more people like them.

That is the loop: traffic, conversion, data, better targeting, more conversion. Good advertising gets smarter when your website and your customer data are connected. If everything happens on a third-party platform, you lose that visibility, and your ads stay as smart as the day you started.

Step 1: Own the pieces before you spend

Before you touch a campaign, make sure the website, the Pixel and the accounts are yours. Agencies come and go. Your data should stay.

  • Guests book, order and buy tickets on your own website, on your own domainIf the booking happens on someone else’s platform, you usually lose sight of it.
  • Your business owns the Meta Business account, the ad account and the PixelNot your agency or a freelancer. Give them access; never let them own it.
  • You have one Pixel for the venue, not a new one with every agencyMeta’s tools sometimes call it a dataset. Its ID is what you need.
  • At least two people in your business have admin access
  • Your Pixel ID is written down where your team can find it
  • Your booking and ordering pages work well on a phone, where Instagram clicks land

Dinesurf

Your own Pixel, on your Dinesurf bookings

  • Add your Pixel ID in the Dinesurf dashboard under Website, Booking widget, "Meta Pixel ID", and the booking widget fires your own Pixel. See how
  • It sends four of Meta’s standard events: ViewContent when the booking form opens, InitiateCheckout when a guest starts a booking, Schedule when the booking is confirmed, and Purchase when the deposit is paid, with its value and currency.
  • Dinesurf builds and hosts your website on your own domain, with your menu, reservations, online ordering and events, so guests book and order with you, not on a marketplace. See how
  • Every booking, order and ticket creates or updates a guest profile in Guestbook, so you keep the customer as well as the ad data. See how
